Gospel means “good news,” and the Good News is this: God loves you and has made a way for you to be saved from the consequences of your sin. This salvation is only available through Jesus—God who became man.

The Bible teaches that we have offended God by rebelling against Him (this is called sin). This rebellion has made us God’s enemies. Being an enemy of God means separation from Him now and forever. But God, in His love, has made a way for us to know Him and live with Him forever. Jesus alone paid the price for our sins so that God’s enemies might become His children.

Here are four things that Jesus did:

  1. Jesus lived the life you could not live—a sinless life. (2 Cor. 5:21)
  2. Jesus died the death you deserved—a sinner’s death on a cross. (Rom. 4:25)
  3. Jesus rose from the dead to give you the life you never could have earned—eternity in heaven. (John 11:25)
  4. Jesus did all this because He loves you. (Rom. 5:8)

The Bible also tells us how to accept this free offer of forgiveness through Jesus:

To repent means to turn away from your old way of life and turn to God, saying, “Lord, I realize that I am in rebellion against You and cannot save myself. You alone can forgive my offense; so please forgive me and make me new. I want to turn away from my old way of living and give my life completely to You. Fill me with Your Spirit, that I might obey You and become Your child.”
