Gospel is a Greek word that means “good news,” and the heart of the Good News is this: The God of the universe loves you and has provided the way for you to be saved from the just penalty of your sins. He has provided the way for you to know Him and live with Him forever—and that way is Jesus, the sinless Son of God.
- Jesus lived the life you could not live—a sinless life. (2 Cor. 5:21)
- Jesus died the death you deserved—a sinner’s death on a cross. (Rom. 4:25)
- Jesus rose from the dead to give you the life you never could have earned—eternity in heaven. (John 11:25)
- Jesus did all this because He loves you. (Rom. 5:8)
All of us have sinned, and our sin has separated us from God. Only Jesus, the sinless Son of God, can take away our sins and restore our relationship with God the Father. And only by accepting His free gift of forgiveness, repenting (turning away) from your sins, and yielding your life to Christ can you receive eternal life—which includes abundant joy and peace for you today and the promise of eternity in heaven with God.
The Bible tells us how to accept God's free gift of forgiveness through Christ Jesus:
Following Christ isn't a matter of simply saying, "Sure, I believe Jesus rose from the dead." It's a matter of the heart. To repent is to turn away from your old life of sin. To turn to God is to say, "Lord I cannot save myself; only You can. So please forgive me and make me new. I give my life completely and wholeheartedly to You. Fill me with Your Spirit, that I might obey You all the days of my life."
